Sonar Profile System

The sonar profiler system is an underwater scanning unit that can be floated or skidded through a pipe. Unlike conventional CCTV inspection, the sonar profiler system is designed to operate in large (12"-20') underwater pipe lines, without the need of flow reduction. Sonar technology reports accurate dimensional data on silt level, grease accumulation, pipe deformation and pipe deterioration. Using the sonar software, a circle overlay can be projected, sized and moved anywhere within the image for checking erosion and remaining wall thickness. Accurate measurements can be made between any two points within the sonar image, thus allowing offsets, debris levels, size of blockage, grease level and other various defects to be quantified.

The sonar unit typically travels through the pipe at one foot for every two to three seconds, sending, pulses every 1.5 seconds. Each pulse results in a color cross-section tracing on the video screen showing the portion of pipe below the water line. Hard objects inside the pipe appear as deviations from the normal pipe tracing. Sediments or breaks in the pipe appear in different colors; indicating lower density.

Applications
  • Determine silt, grease levels & blockages
  • Determine pipe defects (cracks, holes, etc.)
  • Pre & Post inspection of rehabilitated or cleaned pipeline
  • Determine corrosion build-up
  • Determine pipe deterioration
